First Time at the Carlsbad Flower Fields and It Was Way Bigger Than I Expected!

There’s something about finally going somewhere everyone talks about and realizing it still manages to surprise you. That was me at the Carlsbad Flower Fields! It was my first time going and it was much bigger than I expected and with an ocean breeze!!

Everyone always talks about the rainbow rows and yes they are as good as advertised. Though what stood out to me was everything else people barely talk about. There’s a full sunflower field that feels like peak summer, an orchid greenhouse that slows the whole experience down, and a butterfly garden that actually makes you pause instead of rushing through for photos.

Then you’ve got the sweet pea maze which is fun and slightly chaotic if you lean into it, plus statue, stained glass and mosaic elements that gives the place some history instead of it just being a pretty backdrop. It adds a layer most people don’t expect.

The biggest surprise for me was the blueberry picking. I’ve always wanted to do it and didn’t even realize it was part of the experience. It’s eight dollars per person, they hand you a container, and basically tell you to fill your basket and your stomach! It’s simple, a little nostalgic, and honestly one of the highlights of the day. They grow two kinds Emerald and Snow Chaser.

Also something I did not expect at all, it’s located right behind Armstrong Garden Center. You walk in thinking you’re just there for flowers and end up getting this whole layered experience.

If you’re going just for the rainbow fields, you’re missing half of what makes this place worth it. The real magic is in everything you didn’t plan for!
