Little Freebirds Laguna Beach | Local Business Spotlight

by Gerson Seise REALTOR

In a town known for its creativity, coastal charm, and strong sense of community, locally owned businesses are a big part of what makes Laguna Beach so special.

One of those beloved local spots is Little Freebirds, a charming children’s boutique that has become a favorite for families in Laguna Beach and visitors alike.

Located in the heart of downtown Laguna Beach, Little Freebirds offers a thoughtfully curated selection of children’s clothing, baby gifts, toys, books, and accessories for newborns through age 10. The boutique is known for carrying unique brands, organic fabrics, and high-quality pieces you won’t typically find in big-box stores.

But what truly sets Little Freebirds apart is its focus on community. The shop has long been a welcoming place for local families looking for meaningful gifts, timeless children’s clothing, and products that celebrate childhood in a simple and joyful way.

As part of my Local Business Spotlight Series on The GSR Collective, I sat down with the owner of Little Freebirds to learn more about her story—how the shop came to be, what it’s like running a children’s boutique in Laguna Beach, and what keeps customers coming back year after year.

And since this blog also connects the Laguna Beach community with real estate insights, I always like to ask local business owners one more question:

What advice would they give someone thinking about their next move in real estate?

Let’s hear Christina Logee’s story.

Meet the Owner: Christina Logee

“I own Little Freebirds, a kids shop on Ocean Avenue in Laguna Beach. The store has been in this location for more than 20 years, and I’m actually the fourth owner.

Prior to purchasing Little Freebirds in 2023, I was an optician for 28 years. Before purchasing Little Freebirds in 2023, I worked as an optical business coach, a part-time professor, a professional development educator and speaker, and I also served as president of the provincial regulatory board for my profession.

I loved my career, but I wanted to move to Laguna Beach even more than I wanted to continue in my previous career. So here I am.

Little Freebirds has stood the test of time because we focus on sustainable, adorable clothing that is truly unique. I curate items from all over the United States and from Europe, focusing on natural fibers—and organic materials whenever possible.

We carry Jellycat plush toys from the UK, which are some of the sweetest stuffed animals you’ve ever seen. Our shop also offers clothing for babies through kids around age 10, along with books and accessories like Carrying Kind purses, Shimmer Cove mermaid dolls, and even some shoes.”

A Store Inspired by Parenthood

“I’m a very proud mom. My kids are both in their 20s now, which means I have plenty of experience choosing practical kids clothes that also look put together.

Kids have a magical quality to them—their innocence, honesty, and endless energy. I try to capture that spirit in the clothing we carry at the shop.

Our clothes are designed to wash and wear well, because parents don’t have time to hand-wash and hang-dry everything. My kids were very active and loved playing outside and getting dirty, but I still wanted them to look good. That’s why I’ve continued the tradition at Little Freebirds of offering high-quality clothing that’s a little unique. I have made our options even more affordable over the last few years to respond to the requests from locals.

I love seeing kids get excited about a new T-shirt, a pair of shorts, or a new dress—and watching their parents feel good about buying something special for them.

We also carry Laguna Beach-branded items for families and visitors who want to represent this beautiful town on their clothing.”

Real Estate Advice from a Laguna Beach Business Owner

“Moving to Laguna Beach was a big step for me. I used proceeds from selling my previous home to help fund my dream of owning a shop here.

That meant becoming a renter again for the first time in more than 20 years.

I bought my first home when I was very young and only moved once when my family outgrew our starter house. I definitely miss owning my home, and I plan to return to homeownership when the time is right.

The best real estate decision I ever made was buying a home as early as I could. I saved young, sacrificed a little early on, and that helped make the rest of my life easier.

I know firsthand how difficult it can be to save for that first down payment, but in the long run, it’s absolutely worth it.”

Thank you for sharing your bussiness and thoughts with us, Christina!
